How difficulty is classified
Difficulty combines duration, altitude, pass crossings, remoteness and the amount of sustained climbing. “Easy” still requires normal walking fitness; all high-altitude routes require acclimatisation.
EasyShorter days, lower or moderate altitude, and less technical terrain. Suitable for active first-time trekkers.
MediumLonger days, steeper climbs or high passes. Good fitness and previous multi-day walking experience are recommended.
HardLong, remote or very high routes with repeated passes and rapidly changing conditions. Strong fitness and experience are essential.
