Page introduction

The classic Jomolhari Trek links the Paro Valley with the mountains above Thimphu. The trail follows the upper Paro Chu to Jangothang, crosses Nyile La to Lingshi, then continues over Yele La and through Shodu and Barshong before descending to Dodena. Difficulty and safety

The supplied medium grade reflects a non-technical route, but the elevation, duration and two high passes demand excellent fitness. The group’s pace must be governed by acclimatisation and weather, not by a rigid timetable.

Frequently asked questions

Is this different from the Jomolhari Loop? Yes. The classic trek continues east through Lingshi and exits near Thimphu; the loop returns to the Paro side through Soi Yaksa.

What views can I expect? Jomolhari dominates the base-camp area, with other high peaks and broad valleys visible in clear weather. Cloud can obscure all mountain views, so descriptions should not imply a guarantee.
