The Bumthang Owl Trek is a compact forest adventure above the Bumthang Valley. - Menchugang to the Schemata area via Dhur: Begin near Menchugang, pass through Dhur and climb into forest. The transition from village paths to quiet woodland gives the trek its distinctive atmosphere.
- Schemata to Kitiphu/Drangela high ground: Continue through mixed forest and open ridge country. This is the most elevated stage and demands a steady pace, warm layers and attention to signs of altitude discomfort.
- Kitiphu to Jakar via Tharpaling: Descend through the religious landscape around Tharpaling, then continue towards the road connection for Jakar.
What to expect
Although listed as easy, the route reaches approximately 4,000 metres. The grade reflects its short length and non-technical trail, not an absence of altitude or steep sections. Spend time in Bumthang before starting, stay hydrated and tell the guide immediately about persistent headache, nausea, unusual fatigue or poor coordination.

Will I definitely see or hear owls? No wildlife encounter is guaranteed. The name reflects the forest habitat and local trekking experience; quiet groups have the best chance of hearing nocturnal birdlife.
